Ecommerce giant Amazon has announced that it is implementing a temporarily extended return period. The longer return period is coming into effect during the holiday season. According to the marketplace, it will help merchants increase their sales.
After summer, most online businesses start preparing for the holiday season. Amazon, which was recently announced as the fourth biggest online store in the Netherlands, is doing just that. In previous years, the online marketplace also extended its return deadlines, meaning that customers have a longer period in which they can return ordered items.
Extension in Europe
Amazon’s longer return period will apply to its stores in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Belgium. Items that are bought between November 1st and December 25th, can be returned until January 31st or within 30 days of the purchase date (whichever is later).
In Germany and Italy, items bought during that period in the categories camera, electronics, office supplies & stationery, PC, wireless, video games, music and video/DVD, can be returned until January 15th or within 14 days of the purchase date (whichever is later).
Spanish consumers get a different return window
Spanish consumers get a different return window. They can return items that were purchased between November 1st and January 6th until February 6th, or within 30 days of the purchase date (whichever is later). These return deadlines were announced on Amazon’s Seller Central forum.
Encourage early shopping
According to Amazon, the extended return deadline will give customers more confidence to shop early for the holiday season. Additionally, it expects that merchants can increase their sales. The extension will apply to orders from Fulfilled by Amazon, Amazon Retail and Fulfilled by Seller.
